ANEC: Corn exports down 55.8% YoY in September
Oct, 06, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202138
Brazilian corn exports totaled 2.55 million tons last month, a decrease of 55.8% compared to September 2020, when shipments totaled 5.76 million tons, according to ANEC (the national association of cereal exporters). In the year-to-date figures, exports reached 12.68 million tons, a drop of 36.9% compared to the 20.1 million tons exported during the same period last year.
The strong decrease was a direct result of the two major crop failures in Brazil which reduced the supply of corn by 16.4%, according to the latest survey by CONAB (the national supply company). According to analysts, industries and cattle raisers ended up paying more to keep the cereal in Brazil, which reduced its availability for export.
See the chart below for a history of Brazilian corn exports since January 2018. Data are from DataLiner:

ANEC forecasts an even greater reduction in shipments this month. Based on port schedules, the organization calculates that exports will be 1.42 million tons, a decrease of 68.7% compared to the 4.53 million tons shipped in October last year. Market projections are that foreign sales will fall by around 40% this year.
