Animal protein association cuts chicken output forecast for 2022
Jul, 29, 2022 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek
The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) reduced, on July 28, its estimate for the production of chicken meat in Brazil in 2022 to between 14.35 million and 14.5 million tonnes. The entity projected something between 14.7 million and 14.9 million tonnes in December.
ABPA now forecasts between 4.7 million and 4.9 million tonnes for this year’s exports, more than the range indicated in December (4.65 million to 4.75 million tonnes). Thus, the supply in the domestic market is now estimated at up to 9.8 million tonnes — at the end of 2021, the estimate was between 9.95 million and 10.25 million tonnes.
Brazilian per capita chicken consumption is estimated at 45.5 kilograms in 2022 over the 48 kilograms forecast in December.
ABPA also released its first estimates for chicken meat in 2023: production of up to 15 million tonnes (+4.5%), exports of up to 5.2 million tonnes (+6%), domestic supply of at most 10 million tons (+2%), and consumption of up to 46 kilos per person in the year (+2%).
Pork
In the case of pork, the association increased its production estimate this year to between 4.85 million to 4.95 million tonnes, compared with the range of 4.8 million to 4.85 million tonnes forecast in December.
Exports are expected to be between 1.05 million to 1.1 million tonnes, below the range of 1.15 to 1.2 million tonnes projected at the end of last year. ABPA believes that there will be more pork meat in the domestic market. The entity expects 3.75 to 3.9 million tonnes compared to 3.6 to 3.7 million tonnes observed in the previous report.
Per capita, pork consumption is projected at 18 kilograms, up from 17.3 kilograms forecast in December.
By 2023, ABPA forecasts production of up to 5.1 million tonnes of pork (+3%), exports of up to 1.2 million tons (+9%), and domestic supply of up to 3.95 million tonnes (+2%), and per capita consumption of 18.3 kilos (+1.5%).
