Another four countries suspend Brazil’s beef exports due to mad cow disease
Sep, 16, 2021 Posted by Neeharika KhaitanWeek 202136
The two atypical cases of mad cow disease registered in Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso and confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture earlier this month led to the suspension of beef exports to at least six countries, according to a survey carried out by the sector, to which Globo Rural had access.
The information, not officially disclosed, points to blockades on shipments to Russia, Indonesia, Iran and Egypt – in addition to China and Saudi Arabia, which have already been confirmed by the Brazilian government. Together, the six countries accounted for more than 57% of Brazilian beef exports in 2020. The Ministry of Agriculture and the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec) have not yet commented on the list of blockades.
