A balance sheet of Brazil’s National Agency Waterway Transportation (ANTAQ) for the last quarter of 2022, from July to September, shows a 26.4% increase in inspection actions compared to the same period in 2021, with 1,301 actions carried out this year compared to 1,029 last year.
This figure includes scheduled and extraordinary inspections, along with routine inspections that do not rely on the prior opening of an administrative process. Considering only the first two categories, the increase in the number of inspections was 13%.
Antaq recognizes three types of inspections: “Scheduled,” in compliance with the Annual Inspection Plan (PAF); “Extraordinary,” to investigate complaints, facts, and/or issues relevant to the Agency’s performance; and “Routine,” a common tax action that may lead to the opening of a process to investigate irregularities.
