Brazilian Waterborne Transportation Agency (ANTAQ) recently engaged in an international mission to South Africa to address crucial matters within the waterborne economy. Agency representatives convened with members of the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure (PIANC) during the association’s 35th World Conference, which ended Friday (30).

Eduardo Nery, the Agency’s General Director, and Director Wilson Lima Filho were pivotal figures in this mission. They participated in discussions on PIANC’s strategic directives during the general assembly meeting and engaged in bilateral talks with representatives from PIANC Belgium and PIANC China.

These exchanges provided valuable insights into strategic projects in Belgium and China, fostering direct channels for information exchange between the organizations.

Moreover, the directors convened with the association’s global president and other PIANC members to explore avenues for enhancing ANTAQ’s involvement in the technical endeavors of the World Association and crafting strategies to bolster the PIANC National Section.

During the visit, confirmation was made regarding the PIANC AMÉRICAS event scheduled for Brazil in 2026. This event will feature sessions dedicated to the PIANC COPEDEC agenda, a traditional forum organized by the institution aimed at discussing port and coastal engineering solutions in developing countries.

About the Conference:

The event, held every four years, commenced on Monday (29) and ended on Friday, May 3, in Cape Town, South Africa.

On April 26th and 27th, the association’s general assembly convened to make strategic and institutional decisions. The assembly comprises delegations from member countries.

ANTAQ has represented PIANC in Brazil since 2007, and in recent years, it has ramped up its involvement in the institution, aiming to globalize the Agency’s technical expertise and foster Brazil’s active participation in the formulation of these reports.
