The National Waterborne Transport Agency (ANTAQ) presented details of the Madeira River concession project to potential investors on Tuesday, May 28, underscoring its priority status within the agency’s portfolio.
The concession framework stipulates that fees for cargo movement will only be implemented once the concessionaire begins providing services. Importantly, there will be no charges for passenger transport.
The anticipated investment for the waterway project is R$109 million, with the concession contract set for a 12-year term, extendable for an additional 12 years.
By 2026, the Madeira River is expected to transport 400,000 passengers annually. This waterway is also crucial for the transport of grains produced in Rondônia and the northwest and southwest regions of Mato Grosso, via BR-364.
The meeting was led by Wilson Lima Filho, the rapporteur for the concession project, with ANTAQ directors Caio Farias and Alber Vasconcelos also in attendance.
