APM Terminals, one of the world’s largest port terminal operators, with a presence in 33 countries and over half a century of experience, will participate in the 29th edition of Intermodal South America, taking place from April 22 to 24 at the Distrito Anhembi in São Paulo. Known for its global leadership in developing and operating container terminals, the company will showcase its latest projects and innovations in Brazil at stand JO93.

The company operates in Northeastern Brazil at Suape, in the Governador Eraldo Gueiros Industrial Port Complex (Ipojuca-PE), and in the Pecém Complex (CE). It also has joint venture operations at the BTP terminal in Santos and Itapoá (SC), reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, digitalization, and logistics efficiency.

APM Terminals Suape, located in Pernambuco, will be Latin America’s first fully electrified terminal. With an initial investment of R$ 1.6 billion, the project is under implementation and is expected to begin operations in the second half of 2026. The terminal is currently under construction and marks a milestone in the sector, meeting the highest quality and safety standards with environmental responsibility and modern infrastructure.

The terminal’s initial capacity will be up to 400,000 TEUs per year, increasing the port complex’s container handling capacity by 55%. During the construction phase, around 1,000 indirect jobs were created, and once operational, the terminal is expected to generate 250 direct jobs and over 2,000 indirect ones.

Meanwhile, APM Terminals Pecém, in Ceará, 55 km from the state capital, celebrates the arrival of the weekly MSC—Far East-Centram-ECSA Service (Santana), which directly connects the port to major Asian hubs such as Mundra (India), Singapore, Yantian, Ningbo, Shanghai, Qingdao, and Busan. This new route significantly reduces transit time between Northeastern Brazil and Asia, eliminating the need for transshipments in Southeast and Southern ports.

According to Daniel Rose, CEO of APM Terminals Suape and Pecém, details of both terminals will be presented at Intermodal 2025:

“In Suape, we have dedicated teams working on the construction, with the ordered equipment arriving by the end of this year, bringing us closer each day to the start of operations.”

“In Pecém, we continue to elevate both regional and national trade to a new level, launching new connectivity that cuts estimated transit time to Asia in half—from 60 to 30 days—yielding significant logistical efficiency gains for exporters and importers and attracting new types of cargo, especially commodities and e-commerce products bound for China, India, Bangladesh, and Egypt,” he explains.

“We are proud to reinforce Northeastern Brazil as a strategic point in trade with Asia, facilitating access to inputs and increasing the competitiveness of regional exports. The development of this logistics hub further boosts Brazil’s integration into major global trade routes, establishing the region as a key connection platform between continents and a driver of sustainable growth for the country,” concludes Daniel Rose.
