Argentina’s grain and derivative exports generated $1.966 billion in December 2024. While this represents a 1.6% decline compared to the previous month, it marks a 58% increase compared to December 2023. The data released by the Chamber of Oilseed Industry of Argentina (Ciara) and the Cereal Exporters Center (CEC), representing 48% of Argentina’s total exports, highlight strong growth.
For 2024, the accumulated revenue reached $25.09 billion, up 27% compared to the previous year.
According to the organizations, the inflow of foreign currency in December was driven by a steady pace of grain sales, the beginning of wheat and barley harvesting, and a “strong soybean crushing program for the export of soybean meal and oil.” They also stated that 2024 surpassed the previous year in foreign currency inflows thanks to a larger harvest volume.
“The international prices did not match the improvement in production. Otherwise, total annual values could have been even higher,” they added. The main exported product from the sector is soybean meal, accounting for 12% of the total exports, followed by corn (11%) and soybean oil (6.9%).
