The directors of the Bahía Blanca Port Management Consortium are investing in order to become an export terminal in the Vaca Muerta region. To this end, the port is acquiring an area of 1,800 hectares for expansion.
The terminal has not only good intentions from its current administration in its favor, but also a strategic geographical location and privileged maritime connectivity with huge potential for expansion, as well as a guaranteed depth of 45 feet which can also be expanded.
One of the port management’s objectives is to prepare the terrain for future business disembarkation in the region, as the Vaca Muerta region is a large shale gas depot which is progressing with pipeline construction plans.
Bahía Blanca Port currently handles cargo of around 27m tons per year in fuels and petrochemical products and, according to production projections in the Vaca Muerta region, this movement can be multiplied. In June 2018, for example, the site made the first export of liquefied gas from the Vaca Muerta region.
