The Mar del Plata Regional Port Consortium has announced a significant expansion of its maritime cargo transportation operations, aiming to bolster its presence in international trade, reports GlobalPorts.
This initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to welcome the arrival of CMA CGM, the world’s third-largest container shipping company, scheduled for mid-May this year.
Marcos Gutiérrez, President of the Mar del Plata Regional Port Consortium, underscored the city’s need to enhance its participation in maritime commercial traffic routes. “In recent months, we’ve been diligently working to attract new operators to facilitate the export of local production to global markets,” he stated.
The Consortium has actively supported private operators in negotiations to attract the French firm, not only elevating the port’s international significance but also fostering greater economic vitality for the region.
“While fishing has historically been pivotal for our port, it’s essential to note our focus on creating conditions that position our port as a central hub in international trade through navigable waterways,” Gutiérrez emphasized.
The integration of the Port of Mar del Plata into international maritime routes presents a strategic opportunity offering substantial benefits for local companies. These advantages include notable cost and time savings, enabling more direct and efficient access to global markets.
With these strategic endeavors, the Mar del Plata Regional Port Consortium emerges as a pivotal player in fortifying foreign trade and propelling the economic advancement of the region.
