Argentine maritime unions announced a 48-hour strike starting at 6 pm on Tuesday, May 18, claiming to be considered priority personnel to receive the coronavirus vaccine.
The summons was confirmed by the Center for Overseas Captains and Merchant Navy Officers. After consulting the Trade News with the agency, its president, Marcos Castro, affirmed that this is the “beginning of a fight plan until the shipping personnel is qualified as a vaccination priority, adding that “all unions are involved in all activities, including fishing ”.
The announcement quickly went viral on social media and shows that “by unanimous decision by all maritime unions, members are advised to cease activities for 48 hours, starting at 6 pm on May 18. This instruction is addressed to all members who carry out the activities, including oil tankers, container carriers, supplies, fishing boats, etc.”.
“Captains must report this to their respective shipowners,” concludes the message.
