Argentine producers claim that ‘retenciones’ can lead to shortages

The Argentine Rural Confederations (CRA) have expressed their opposition to the national government’s market interventions, such as the increase in export tariffs on soybean flour and oil, as well as the retraction of February prices. The organization has also accused the government of enabling a hidden increase in withholdings by establishing the wheat trust.
The rural group commented that these measures only discourage supply and generate recurring shortages in an official statement. At the same time, they offered their concern towards possible gas shortages in the coming months due to the war in Ukraine and the possibility of restrictions to gas use in Argentina’s industry, owning to the delays in public service and transport tariffs.
“The agreement with IMF is not a sufficiently good economic plan. Implementing a comprehensive anti-inflationary plan is essential to avoid inflation from spiraling,” indicated CRA.
