By 48 votes in favor and none contrary, on September 14, the Legislative Assembly approved Bill No. 230/2021 that authorizes the change of the legal nature of the Superintendence of the Port of Rio Grande (Suprg) from autarchy to company public. The approval is the result of intense work led by Governor Eduardo Leite and the state secretary of logistics and transport, Juvir Costella, with the intermediation of the chief secretary of the Civil House, Arthur Lemos.
“This definitely allows the Porto cashier to stay with Porto and we have a more professional administration, which will be marked out by Law 13,303 that regulates public companies”, said the superintendent of the Ports of Rio Grande do Sul, Fernando Estima. In addition, a new A bill will be taken to the Assembly to define the status of the workforce, such as retirement and workers’ rights.
“The implementation of the public company is scheduled for the turn of the year. We have three months to adapt and we want to open the management of next year with the new company, called Portos RS, which will take care of the entire waterway, the three public ports , in addition to the relationship with other terminals granted and private use terminals,” concluded Estima.
