ATP, Antaq sign agreement to promote technical cooperation in private terminals

Brazil’s Association of Private Port Terminals (ATP) and the National Agency for Waterway Transportation (Antaq) formalized, on Monday afternoon (10/3), an agreement that prescribes joint efforts aimed at the growth of the activities at organized public ports and Private Use Terminals (TUP).

ATP president Murillo Barbosa signed the protocol of intent during the opening of the 29th CooperaPortos. With the theme “The role of the port sector in energy transition,” the hybrid event will happen until Wednesday (5/10) in Porto do Açu (RJ). The meeting brings together representatives of the public and private sectors.

Cooperaportos is a nationwide event in port environmental management and was created in 2000 through a technical cooperation agreement between Antaq and Brazilian ports, but with little presence of TUPs at the time.

The signed protocol states that the goal is to coordinate “the efforts necessary to promote the development of projects and actions,” as well as the exchange of knowledge and best practices between various businesses and organizations involved in Brazil’s port industry, the academic community, and governmental organizations.

These referred actions encompass the areas of governance, quality management, environmental management, occupational health and safety management, social responsibility, port operations, research, development, and innovation. The joint action also focuses on ESG, an acronym for good environmental, social, and governance practices.

In the country where ports were responsible for 98.1% of total exports in tonnes last year, ATP brings together 31 member companies and 61 TUPs, which account for 60% of Brazilian port movement.
