The production of automobiles in Brazilian factories hit a new record in August this year with 238,000 units, up 8.7% over July and 43.9% over August 2021. For the first time, the year-to-date volume exceeded that of the same period of last year: 1,549 million vis-a-vis 1,479 million, up 4.7%.
The production of buses has been standing out, with 20,000 units produced in the year, 50% more than in the first eight months of 2021. The production of agricultural machinery, which managed to keep a stable, yet relevant sales performance, also drew attention. Road machines, in particular, registered the best historical result in recent months.
“In August, we operated without any manufacturing site being shut down for the first time in a year and a half. As a result, the flow of semiconductors is finally starting to normalize, albeit we are still experiencing supply constraints,” said Márcio de Lima Leite, president of the industry association ANFAVEA.
Exports are still in a solid upward trend. The nearly 47,000 units shipped to other markets represented an increase of 11.7% over June and 59% over August 2021. In the year, the volume of 335,000 vehicles exported far exceeds that of previous years, including that of 2019, the last year before the pandemic.
