Data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) reveal that Bahia achieved historic results in the cocoa sector in 2024, recording substantial growth in the value and volume of exported cocoa. The state’s exports totaled USD 434 million, marking a 119% increase compared to USD 198 million in 2023. The exported volume reached 46,000 tons, representing a 1.3% rise.
This performance reinforces Bahia’s position as a leader in the cocoa market, driven primarily by a 150% surge in international prices. This spike was fueled by growing global demand and a reduced supply from major producers like Côte d’Ivoire, which faced climate and phytosanitary challenges.
The chart below shows the top destinations for Brazilian exports of cocoa products, including cocoa beans, chocolates, cocoa butter, paste, shells, and other preparations. This data comes from Datamar’s DataLiner.

Bahia’s Secretary of Agriculture, Wallison Tum, highlighted the strategic initiatives that have strengthened the state sector. “Bahia reaffirms its leadership in the cocoa sector with these impressive results. We are investing in projects such as ‘Parceiros da Mata,’ the revival of the Cocoa Sector Chamber, and ‘Inova Cacau,’ all coordinated by Seagri, to further boost production and enhance the quality of our cocoa,” he stated.
These advancements cement Bahia’s role as a key player in the cocoa sector and open doors to new opportunities in the global market, underscoring the state’s importance in the cocoa production chain.
