Bean Exports Expected to Hit Record Levels in 2025, Says Cepea

With domestic consumption remaining virtually stable for at least eight harvests, exports have become the main outlet to absorb Brazil’s bean production growth. According to the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) at Esalq/USP, expectations for 2025 point to record performance in external sales, driven by the historic results achieved in 2024.

Cepeda researchers highlight that 2025 will bring challenges, with increasing supply and a domestic surplus projected to reach unprecedented levels. December data from the National Supply Company (Conab) indicates a surplus of 561.5 thousand tons of beans in the 2024/25 season, surpassing the 551.9 thousand tons recorded in the previous harvest. The international market will be crucial to prevent even greater pressure on domestic prices in this context.

Conab estimates total production for the 2024/25 harvest at 3.36 million tons, a 3.5% increase compared to the previous harvest. According to the same entity, approximately 169 thousand tons of this volume are expected to be exported in 2025. Nevertheless, final bean stocks, projected at 392.5 thousand tons by December 2025, would represent the highest relative to domestic consumption in the past 15 years. This accumulation could intensify pressure on prices, underscoring the importance of strategies to boost exports.
