Beef: Uruguay slaughters 667 thousand cattle heads in 2Q22

In the second quarter of 2022 (2Q22), Uruguay slaughtered 667 thousand heads of cattle, up 3% from the same period in 2021. According to information disclosed by Minerva Foods, the average price per animal was US$ 5.5/kg.
Uruguayan exports totaled 107 thousand tonnes in the second quarter of 2022, an expansion of 10% compared to 2Q2, which repeated similar levels from the previous quarter. Export revenue for the quarter reached US$789 million, up 44% year-on-year and up 9% when compared to 1Q22.

In the first six months of the year, Uruguay exported 215 thousand tonnes, an increase of 14% compared to the same period in 2021. Revenue in the period was US$ 1.5 billion, up 50% compared to 1H21. China remains the primary destination for Uruguayan beef, representing 58% of exports, followed by the USA, which represented 13% of exports, and the third destination, the Netherlands, represented 8% of total exports.
