Bhutan allows chicken meat exports from Brazil
Jan, 02, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202401
Bhutan’s decision to welcome Brazilian chicken into its market is a significant boost to Brazil’s poultry exports in Asia, according to a statement from the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). The market opening announcement was made by the Ministry of Agriculture on Friday, December 29, 2023.
Bhutan, with a population of 1 million, currently has a low per capita chicken consumption of around 5 kg per year, compared to Brazil’s 46 kilograms per year. “There is potential for increased chicken consumption among the Bhutanese population. Brazil can now position itself as a significant partner in the Asian country’s food security,” stated Ricardo Santin, president of the association.
According to ABPA’s market director, Luís Rua, export taxes for poultry products to Bhutan are “advantageous within the international context,” approximately 10% of the exported product’s value.
