Bill wants to create 15% tax over corn exports
Jan, 26, 2022 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202204
Bill 2814/21 establishes a 15% tax on corn exports valid until December 31, 2022. The text, which is being analyzed at the Chamber of Deputies, authorizes the Executive Branch to change the rate by up to 10 percentage points throughout the period.
Deputy Dr. Soraya Manato (PSL-ES), the proposal’s author, claims that the high price of corn in recent years has prompted many producers to buy from the international market, putting national supplies at risk.
“In situations of scarcity or not enough of a product available to meet the needs of the Brazilian population, it is justifiable to charge an export tax to regulate the market and allow the correct service of the domestic market”, says the deputy.
The project will be conclusively analyzed by the Committees on Agriculture, Livestock, Supply, and Rural Development; of Finance and Taxation; and Constitution and Justice and Citizenship.
