
Bird flu outbreak kills about 47 million birds in Arkansas

A bird flu outbreak has been confirmed in a flock of breeding hens in Arkansas, one of the top US poultry-producing states, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) said.
The rapidly spreading disease killed more than 47 million birds, making it the worst outbreak since 2015 when 50 million animals died.
The case, detected in Madison County, is the first confirmed in Arkansas this year. The state is home to Tyson Foods, the largest US meat supplier, and several other poultry processors, such as George’s and Simmons Foods.
