Brado’s Dedicated Multimodal Operation Boosts Agricultural Chemical Transport and Reduces Emissions

Brado recorded a 36% increase in the transportation of agricultural chemicals from October 2023 to September 2024, compared to the same period last year (Oct/22 to Sep/23). The results coincide with the launch of a dedicated operation for the sector, which has managed to reduce delivery times for these products by about five days while improving punctuality in both collection and delivery.
This so-called dedicated operation involves implementing a series of measures to enhance service levels. The key initiative was the use of exclusive trucks for the product at the road transport endpoints of the multimodal operation, which combines long-distance railway transport and short-distance road transport. The transportation between terminals is done by train, and truck fleets reserved for agricultural chemicals handle the products from the origin—whether from ports or factories—to the Sumaré (SP) terminal, as well as from the terminals in Rondonópolis (MT) and Anápolis (GO) to the final destination.
“We set up an exclusive operation based on customer needs. This market differs from other domestic products sold in São Paulo and delivered to Mato Grosso and Goiás. There is a stock transfer with agricultural chemicals, as products are directly sold in the destination states,” said Marcus Bruno Carvalho Nascimento, Brado’s sales executive responsible for the agricultural chemical portfolio.
In 2022, the complete lead time for transporting agricultural chemicals on the Sumaré (SP) to Rondonópolis (MT) route ranged from 15 to 18 days. After implementing the dedicated operation, this time dropped to an average of 11 days.
In addition to operations in the domestic market, Brado also transports imported agricultural chemicals, mostly from China and India. From the Port of Santos, the products are loaded onto trains and shipped to the terminals in Rondonópolis and Anápolis, then transported to Distribution Centers using vehicles reserved for this market.
“Another indicator that demonstrates the level of service we have reached is the OTD,” Nascimento added. On-Time Delivery (OTD) measures the efficiency of meeting collection and delivery deadlines. On average, collection punctuality rose from 70.7% in 2023 to 98.4% in 2024, a 27.8% improvement. Deliveries reached 100% punctuality this year, compared to 86.2% last year. “All these indicators demonstrate how well the strategy is working and how much the multimodal, rail-based solution can contribute to logistics efficiency in the sector. And with the added benefit of ensuring cargo safety and sustainability in the process,” Nascimento concluded.
From July 2023 to September 2024, clients in the agricultural chemicals portfolio avoided emitting approximately 8.8 thousand tons of CO2, equivalent to the emissions of more than 1,900 vehicles. It would take 63.7 thousand trees to absorb this amount fully.
