Braskem sees 29% increase in resin exports

Braskem’s resin exports from the Brazilian market totaled 879 thousand tonnes in the second quarter of 2022, up 11% compared to the same period of the previous year, thanks to the increase in market share, says the company in its sales and production report.
According to Braskem, market share was lower in the second quarter of last year, mainly due to the scheduled general maintenance stoppage at the ABC petrochemical plant in São Paulo and the increase in import volumes in the same period of the previous year. As a result, quarterly resin sales dropped 1%.
Between April and June, resin exports totaled 230 thousand tonnes, a 29% increase on an annual basis due to improved logistical conditions for exports and a 7% increase on a quarterly basis due to the rise in the volume of polyethylene (PE) exported, given the lower availability of PE in the United States for export.
According to Braskem, sales of polypropylene (PP) in the United States totaled 468,000 tonnes, up 4% year on year and 15% quarter on quarter, illustrating the consumption of stock for sale given the period’s consistent demand.
In Europe, PP sales volume totaled 118 thousand tonnes, down 19% compared to the second quarter of 2021 and 15% compared to the previous quarter, due to lower demand.
Given the increased availability for sale compared to the previous year, PE sales in Mexico increased 23% year on year to 190,000 tonnes. In the quarterly comparison, however, there was a 13% decline due to lesser availability, primarily offset by inventory consumption during the second quarter of 2022.
