The Brazilian Waterborne Transportation Agency (ANTAQ) inked a cooperation agreement on Tuesday (05/03) with the Netherlands, focusing on developing green ports in the country.
The project, a public-private partnership spanning three years, aims to support Dutch companies in exporting and investing in Brazil, as well as to assist Brazilian companies with investments and exports to the Netherlands.
The agreement will expand bilateral cooperation and promote knowledge exchange, encouraging public and private initiatives to develop port logistics and produce green hydrogen, among other goals.
The signing ceremony took place during this year’s edition of Intermodal. The event features companies from the maritime, air, rail, and road transportation sectors. This year’s edition brings together over 500 participants from 15 different countries.
Cross-Agency Agreement
At the event, the director of ANTAQ, Eduardo Nery, emphasized the agency’s hard work in enabling port and waterway infrastructure to meet sector needs.
“To keep national infrastructure modern, efficient, and able to meet new needs that raised from heightened demand, more investments are needed. This year, we have a hard-to-implement portfolio of port terminal auctions,” commented the General Director.
He also pointed out that a partnership between ANTAQ and ANTT will be implemented to find viable solutions to unlock existing land bottlenecks in port accesses.
“We will launch a joint workforce to identify the existing bottlenecks and then propose infrastructure or regulatory works to tackle each of these issues,” he stated.
At the end of his participation, Nery also recalled the importance of making waterways viable for cargo transportation, a priority project of ANTAQ.
Strengthening Public Action
At the Interlog Summit, held within Intermodal 2024, Director Flávia Takafashi participated in the panel “The challenges of infrastructure and regulation in Brazilian logistics,” addressing ANTAQ’s role in strengthening public policies.
“ANTAQ makes educated decisions for the market, public policymakers, and knowledge of port management needs. This means understanding the shortcomings and how we need to think about public administration processes to foster information within the sector, aiming to strengthen public action,” emphasized the Director.
