Brazil announces new program to simplify port grant processes

Brazil’s Ministry of Ports and Airports aims to launch the Navegue Simples [Simple Shipping in a free translation) program by December. The initiative seeks to simplify the process for all types of port grants.
Currently, these procedures take between two to three years. With Navegue Simples, the expectation is to reduce this time to 6 to 8 months. The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, discussed the topic during a meeting at the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp) last week.
“It’s a way to accelerate the portfolio of port projects in Brazil,” he commented.
The program will be carried out in partnership with the National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq) and the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) to streamline the sector and expedite new authorizations for private use terminals (TUPs).
