Apr, 25, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202417
The plunge in the harvest volume of apples in the 2023/24 crop season led Brazi to increase imports of the fruit, notwithstanding the harvest season. To meet the domestic demand, the entry of foreign apples increased.
The chart below shows Brazil’s exports of apples, pears, and quinces in containers from Jan 2021 to Feb 2024. The data is from DataLiner.

According to Comex Stat data, import volume stood at 7 thousand tonnes in March, representing a 17% increase over February – it is worth noting that the quantity purchased was nearly the same as in the same month last year, as delays in the harvest encouraged imports of the fruit. Brazil’s main apple suppliers during the period were: Chile, with 41% of the total entry volume; Argentina, with 26%; and Italy, with 25%.
