The São Paulo Agriculture and Livestock Superintendency (SFA-SP) conducted its first inspection of cotton lint in Jundiaí this Wednesday (2), marking the beginning of a new export process to China, Bangladesh, and Vietnam. According to data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), the operation, which plans to certify 400 containers per month, meets the requirements of countries that do not require phytosanitary treatment.
Phytosanitary certification at the origin, authorized by Mapa as of October 1, takes place at the Contrail Logistica Terminal and aims to ease logistical bottlenecks at the Port of Santos, which accounts for 95% of cotton exports.
The chart below shows the evolution of the pace of Brazil’s cotton exports since January 2022. The data is from DataLiner.

The expectation is that the measure will help meet the anticipated 8% increase in Brazilian cotton exports in the next harvest, according to the Brazilian Cotton Producers Association (Abrapa).
