Brazil breaks exports record to US in 1H24

Coffee was one of the ten exports to the United States (US) in the first half of this year, up 44.6% from the same period in 2023. Coffee beans are part of a select group joined by petroleum fuels and crude oil, which saw increases of over 200% and 100%, respectively.

Total Brazilian exports to the United States reached a record high in the first six months of 2024.

The data, made public on Monday (July 15), was ascertained by the Brazil-US Commerce Chamber (Amcham). Brazil’s total export value hit a record for the period, reaching $19.2 billion, a boost of 12% (or $2.1 billion) compared to the first half of 2023. This figure includes agricultural products and items from the processing and extraction industry sectors.

According to the survey, the North American market saw the highest growth in imports of Brazilian products in the first six months of 2024. “In terms of values, the expansion of sales to the USA represented 29.1% of the total increase in Brazilian global sales ($7.1 billion),” the Amcham bulletin noted.

This growth outpaced Brazil’s exports to other trading partners, such as China, which increased by 3.9%, and the European Union, which increased by 2.1%. Conversely, shipments to South American countries fell by 24.3% in the first half of the year.
