In the first six months of 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) gained access to 72 new markets for Brazilian agricultural products, in 30 different countries. This number surpasses previous records and exceeds the total new market openings set in 2019 and 2022, which were 35 and 53, respectively.

June marked a significant milestone, contributing the most to this record-breaking semester in Brazilian agricultural foreign trade. Throughout the month, 26 markets were opened in 13 countries, accounting for 32% of all market openings for the year.

“Brazil is the hot spot for quality products. We broke all records for opening markets – 18 months, a year and a half of Lula’s government -, 150 markets opened for Brazilian agricultural products,” emphasized Carlos Fávaro, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock.

The new market openings in 2024 span all continents: Africa (6) – South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Nigeria, Zambia, and Egypt; Asia (13) – Saudi Arabia, Armenia, Bhutan, Kazakhstan, China and Hong Kong, South Korea, the Philippines, India, Oman, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Singapore, and Turkey; Europe (3) – Belarus, Russia, and Great Britain; Oceania (1) – Australia; and the Americas (7) – Canada, Mexico, the United States, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Peru.

Among the main products that have had agreements on sanitary and phytosanitary requirements are farmed fish and derivatives, vegetable seeds, live pigs and their derivatives, pork, fish, gelatin and collagen of various origins, processed poultry proteins, shrimp-based products, bovine embryos, bovine semen, tilapia fingerlings, ornamental fish, sheep meat and meat products, beef extract, green coffee, eggs, and non-GMO corn.

The expansion of international markets has also boosted Brazilian exports, with agribusiness representing 49.6% of the total in the first five months of the year, generating US$67.17 billion in revenue.

“We have been working tirelessly and dialoguing with several countries to offer even more opportunities to rural producers, facilitating exports and increasing the competitiveness of Brazilian products on the global market,” highlighted Mapa’s Secretary of Commerce and International Relations, Roberto Perosa.

Since the beginning of 2023, Brazil has opened a total of 150 markets in 52 countries.

These achievements result from the joint efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
