Coffee exporters association, Cecafé said Brazil’s green coffee shipments rose significantly by 33% to 3.45m 60-kg bags in October, YoY. It is believed the figure would have reached 4m bags if it were not for a shortage of space on container vessels setting sail from Brazil. The association confirmed Brazil’s robusta coffee export had bounced back after two years of poor harvest, with shipments reaching 2.072m 60-kg bags in the first ten months of 2018, up 874% compared to only 212,645 bags in 2017, a level not seen since 2015. However, cumulative arabica coffee shipments are still below the level seen between 2014-2016, reaching 22.408m bags between January and October, up 2.6% YoY. Due to a fall in coffee prices, revenue earned from the shipments did not improve much, up 0.7% to US$490.289m year-on-year.
