Brazil egg exports down in March, still not affecting year-to-date surplus

Brazilian egg exports, including both fresh and processed products, nearly halved (-47%) from February to March, totaling 852 tonnes, according to data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex) compiled and analyzed by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) at Esalq/USP.
However, the sector still operated in surplus for the first three months of 2024. Cumulatively, 4.3 thousand tonnes of the protein were shipped, marking an 18.5% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The figure also stood as the 11th-highest for the first quarter in the last 28 years.
On the domestic market, a survey by Cepea indicates that egg prices experienced a sharp decline in the past week due to weakened demand, still reflecting the post-Lent period.
On Friday (4/12), in the Greater São Paulo region, a carton of 30 dozen white eggs was priced at R$ 171.75. Meanwhile, a carton of brown eggs was quoted at R$ 198.49.
