Brazil expected to up wheat imports due to smaller output

After a 27% dip in 2023, wheat imports from Brazil are expected to return to 2022 levels, according to projections from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services.
This information is included in the latest report from Deral (Paraná State Department of Rural Economics), published this week.
According to experts from the Secretariat of State for Agriculture and Supply, the import increase will likely occur given the meager Brazilian harvest yields and increased availability of Argentina wheat.
Brazil’s wheat imports totaled 4.2 million tons last year.
In 2022, the figure was 5.7 million tons, according to the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services.
See below the trend in Brazilian imports of wheat recorded between Jan 2019 and Nov 2023. The data is from DataLiner.
