On the morning of March 21, the Brazilian Federal Police (PF) launched operation Albacora to aid in the investigations related to drug trafficking in the Port of Santos on the coast of São Paulo. The federal agents executed search and seizure warrants, searching for a criminal organization tried for hiding over 600 kg of cocaine in coffee bags that were headed to Europe.
The crime that gave rise to the investigation took place on August 2, 2022. A joint action by the Federal Revenue Service and the PF resulted in the seizure of 605 kg of cocaine in the Port of Santos in a container full of coffee. The product would be taken to the port of Hamburg, Germany.
According to the Federal Police, the container was selected for inspection by the Federal Revenue based on risk-analysis criteria and then scanned by the authorities.
Upon opening the container and removing the first row of bags, which were all regular, the inspectors could find adulterated cargo, which included large plastic bags with cocaine.
The 605 kg of drugs were seized after technical expertise by the PF. A police inquiry was initiated to investigate the case.
This Tuesday, PF teams executed two search and seizure warrants in São Vicente. The apprehended material should help investigate the international drug trafficking scheme in Santos. According to the corporation, the Federal Court of Santos issued the orders.
