Brazil Gains Access to New Agricultural Market in Costa Rica
Jan, 16, 2025 Posted by Denise VileraWeek 202503
The Brazilian government celebrated Costa Rica’s recent decision to accept Brazilian phytosanitary certification to export common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris). This measure marks an essential step in strengthening agricultural trade between the two countries.
In 2024, Brazil exported over $272 million in agricultural products to Costa Rica, focusing on cereals, flours, preparations, soy complex products, and forestry products. Including common beans in the export portfolio opens new business prospects and increases Brazil’s relevance as a strategic trade partner in the Costa Rican market.
With this achievement, Brazil reaches its fourth market opening in 2025, totaling 304 new commercial opportunities in 64 destinations since 2023. These advances result from a joint effort between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), which have been working to expand the presence of Brazilian agribusiness in the international market.
This new opportunity reinforces Brazil’s commitment to diversifying and consolidating its agricultural exports, maintaining competitiveness, and meeting the highest quality standards required by global markets.
