Brazil hits new all-time record for sugar exports in September
Oct, 07, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202439
Brazil reached a new monthly export record in September, according to data recently released by the government. The country shipped 3.954 million tonnes of sugar over that month, surpassing the previous record of 3.921 million tonnes set in August this year. This volume also exceeded the October 2020 record of 3.951 million tonnes.
Compared to September of last year, Brazil increased its sugar exports by 24%, consolidating its position as the global leader in the sweetener market, despite adverse weather conditions.
While the prolonged drought affected the sugarcane crop in Brazil’s Center-South region, it also facilitated the pace of harvesting and milling at the mills, as the lack of rain allowed continuous operations. In rainy periods, harvesting is usually interrupted, negatively impacting production.
The dry weather also contributed to faster port operations, as loading activities are typically halted on rainy days.
