Brazil is the largest container-handling country in Latin America and the Caribbean

The ports and terminals in Brazil allowed the country to rank first in the ranking of nations with the best performance in container handling, which the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) prepared based on measurements made with the 2021 results.

In its breakdown, the top 10 performances for Latin America and the Caribbean are attributable to, in first place, Brazil with 11,813,898 TEUs (+9.5%), followed by Panama with 8,623,927 TEUs (+11.5%), Mexico with 7,855,715 TEUs (+21.6%), Colombia with 5,021,063 TEUs (+7.7%), Chile with 3,431,936 TEUs (+12.4%), Peru with 2,882,032 TEUs (+8.6%), Ecuador with 2,364,017 TEUs (+3.4%), Jamaica with 1,975,401 TEUs (+22.6%), Argentina with 1,795,746 TEUs (+5.5%) and Dominican Republic with 1,760,702 TEUs (+29.7%).

When considering the situation of the remaining countries of South America, we find Uruguay in the fifteenth place (977,922 TEUs) and Paraguay located in the 22nd place out of 28 nations (with 153,656 TEUs).

Finally, the one that closes the list in 28th place is Grenada (22,117 TEUs), surpassed by Bermuda (35,984 TEUs), Cayman Islands (36,265 TEUs), Aruba (57,062 TEUs), and Curaçao (92,640 TEUs).
