In 2023, Brazil solidified its status as the world’s leading exporter of frozen pork cuts, accounting for approximately 32% of the global market share, totaling around 1.08 billion tons and generating revenue of $2.6 billion, as per Comtrade/UN data. Following Brazil, the United States claimed the second position with a 29% share, trailed by the European Union at 23% and Canada at 15%.
These findings were disclosed in the Agricultural Situation Bulletin, prepared by the Department of Rural Economy (Deral) of the State Secretariat for Agriculture and Supply (Seab).
Frozen meat cuts constituted 90% of Brazil’s total pork exports in 2023, including fresh meat, processed meat, and pork offal, according to Agrostat/MAPA. Santa Catarina led the exports of frozen pork cuts (56%), followed by Rio Grande do Sul (23%) and Paraná (14%).
Among the frozen pork meat cuts, NCM 02032900 (other frozen pork meat) dominated the market, representing 97% of the exported volume, with an average price of $2.44 per kg. Conversely, NCM 02032200 cuts (frozen pork legs, feet, and related boneless pieces) recorded lower volumes, with an average price of $1.59 per kg.
In 2023, China (34%), Hong Kong (10%), and the Philippines (9.9%) emerged as Brazil’s primary trading partners for this product. China, the world’s largest importer of meat cuts categorized as NCM 02032900, favored Brazil as its primary supplier, accounting for 50% of the total volume imported by the country, followed by the United States (21%) and Canada (17%).
This data underscores Brazil’s position as the world’s third-largest pork exporter, according to the USDA classification in 2024, highlighting significant potential for market expansion owing to the growing global preference for frozen meat cuts from Brazilian sources.
