Brazil: milk imports increase 63.3% in August

Brazilian milk imports reached 172 million liters in August, representing an increase of 63.3% over July this year, according to the September Milk and Dairy Indicators Report by  Empraba Dairy Cattle. According to the publication, this was the highest monthly import volume of milk and dairy products in the year.

Also, according to the bulletin, Brazilian milk exports decreased in August compared to July this year and the same month in 2021.

“The volume shipped in the last month [August] was only 7.1 million liters, the lowest monthly volume of the year.”

As a result, the YTD trade balance in 2022 recorded a deficit of US$ 281 million, with an equivalent volume of 534 million liters of milk.

According to the publication, international prices for whole milk powder fell again in early August, quoted at US$ 3,481/ton. The cost of skimmed milk powder also dropped and closed in August at US$ 3,524/ton.
