Brazil on the verge of Opening Pecan Market to China, Industry Eyes First Exports in 2025

The pecan processing industry *Pecanita*, based in Cachoeira do Sul (RS), is close to becoming the first Brazilian company authorized to export pecans to China. Last Friday (November 1), the company hosted representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) at its plant for a final inspection— the last step before the issuance of the official certificate that will authorize exports to the Chinese market.
During the audit, MAPA officials examined the company’s pecan processing procedures and inspected aspects related to food safety, traceability, and compliance with international standards.
*Pecanita* expects that the 2025 harvest will be the first one commercially exported to China, estimating an initial shipment of around 1,000 tons.
In a statement to the press, Eduardo Basso, president of the Brazilian Pecan Nut Institute (IBPecan), celebrated the achievement and highlighted that the Institute is focused on opening new markets for Brazilian pecans.
“This is an important milestone; it’s a huge market, and it opens possibilities for the entire national pecan industry. For producers, this will be beneficial, as once we can enter this market, new opportunities will arise, and certainly, better prices for everyone,” he said.
