Brazil secured 34 new agricultural export opportunities in October, marking the record’s second-highest number of market openings. The country nearly matched the 35 openings of 2019, with the only exception being September 2024, which set a new record with 55 openings across 14 countries.
The new markets span several sectors, including cotton to Saudi Arabia, corn and soy seeds to Gabon, cocoa and yerba mate to the Eurasian Union, and lamb and goat meat to Qatar.
So far, in 2024, Brazil has opened 192 new agricultural markets in 48 countries. Since President Lula’s third term began in January, Brazil has reached 270 market openings in 61 countries.
Luis Rua, Secretary of Commerce and International Relations, credited the success to Brazil’s competitive advantages, including food safety and sustainability, and the work of agricultural attaches. “Over 65% of these openings happened in regions where we have attached, and with the expansion of our network, even more records are expected,” he said.
Brazil’s expanding international market access is contributing to solid export growth. In September, agribusiness exports reached a record $14.19 billion, up 3.6% from last year. In the previous 12 months, exports totaled $166.19 billion, an increase of 1.8% year-on-year.
