Brazil, Peru Seal Deal to Enable Poultry Oil Exports for Animal Feed
Apr, 24, 2025 Posted by Sylvia SchandertWeek 202518
Brazil and Peru have concluded a sanitary agreement that will allow the export of Brazilian poultry oil for use in animal feed, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) announced in a press release on April 17.
The news was welcomed by the Brazilian Animal Recycling Association (ABRA) and the Brazilian Renderers project, a partnership between ABRA and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) focused on promoting the rendering sector’s international presence.
Peru has been a priority market for the Brazilian Renderers initiative, which has conducted strategic outreach since 2021. With a population of 34 million and a growing livestock sector, Peru has an increasing demand for animal nutrition inputs. In 2024 alone, Brazil exported over USD 755 million in agricultural products to Peru, including forest products, chicken meat, cereals, soybean oil, and coffee.
Strategic Actions to Open Markets
The achievement results from coordinated efforts between ABRA, Brazilian Renderers, and various Brazilian government agencies led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE). Key support also came from the International Trade and Relations Secretariat at MAPA, the Agricultural Attaché at the Brazilian Embassy in Lima, Angela Peres, and the Embassy’s Trade Promotion Sector.
One milestone in this effort was the Business Connection Peru event in October 2021, which brought together more than 60 participants, including potential buyers, representatives from the Brazilian Embassy in Peru, the Lima Chamber of Commerce, and 34 local industries. The event showcased Brazilian animal recycling products’ quality, safety, and competitiveness in the Peruvian market.
Another key step was the Peruvian Mission to Brazil, held from November 21 to 26, 2022. After delays due to the pandemic, Peruvian government auditors and ABRA and Brazilian government representatives visited Brazilian rendering facilities. The mission highlighted the strength of Brazil’s production chain and helped build confidence among Peruvian authorities.
Commitment to Global Market Expansion
With the new sanitary agreement for poultry oil, Brazilian Renderers reinforces its commitment to promoting Brazilian products and opening new markets for the animal recycling sector. The authorization represents another step in consolidating Brazil’s position as a global benchmark in animal by-product recycling.
