Brazil pork exports are still dropping despite positive projections

Pork exports fell by 12.4% in May year-on-year, while exports from January through May decreased by 8.2%. However, the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) says the worst is over.
With last month’s 89,300 tonnes and 416,600 tonnes exported in the first five months of the year, the volume of shipments registered in 2022 got more in line with the average for the 2020 first quarter and close to the annual average of 2021.
“Exports show a recovery trend in the second semester,” says Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
In terms of revenue, May’s pork exports equaled US$ 204.3 million, 19.3% lower than that recorded in the same month of 2021, with US$ 253.2 million, while the revenue invoiced in the entire year so far totaled US$ 896,3 million, 17% lower from the same period last year.
In May, sales to China declined 49.6% to a little over 27,000 tonnes, as opposed to the significant increases in shipments to Singapore and Argentina, albeit at much lower absolute volumes.
