Brazilian pork exports totaled 106.9 thousand tonnes in March, informed the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). The volume exported is 16.9% higher than the sales in the same period of 2022, when 91.5 thousand tonnes were shipped.
In revenue, March sales totaled US$ 248.9 million, up 30.8% from March 2022, when revenue reached US$ 190.3 million.
In the first quarter of the year, the exported volume of pork reached 274.8 thousand tonnes, a volume 15.7% higher than the 237.5 thousand tonnes shipped between January and March 2022. In the same period, export revenue totaled US$ 646 .3 million, a balance 29.6% greater than the total obtained in the first three months of 2022, with US$ 498.5 million.
“Rising production costs in the world, as well as the impacts of sanitary issues in several pork-producing countries, have sustained the upward trend in demand for our product, which is reflected by increases in sales in eight of the ten largest pork importers. Brazilian swine. Unlike what we saw in the 1st quarter of 2022, the first three months of this year follow at a pace equivalent to that seen in the second half of last year, indicating a year with a comparative upward trend in exports,” analyzes the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.

China was the primary buyer of Brazilian pork protein, importing 109.6 thousand tonnes between January and March, a figure that is 25.6% higher than the 87.2 thousand tonnes registered in 2022. Sales to Chile, the Philippines, Singapore, and Japan also stood out during that period with a combined total of 21.3 thousand tons (+96.8%), 17.8 thousand tons (+8. ), 15.9 thousand tons (+25.8%), and 7.2 thousand tons (+36.9%).
“Along with the usual export destinations, Brazil saw its first pork shipments to Mexico this month, boosting the flow of shipments to this recently opened market. Also, Brazilian exports should remain above 100,000 tons per month due to the resurgence of African swine fever in China and the Philippines,” assesses Luís Rua, markets director at ABPA.
