Porto do Pecém has joined the Sustainability Pact of Brazil’s Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor). The pact’s main objectives include reducing greenhouse gas emissions, implementing social and environmental programs, and aligning with the global goals of the 2030 Agenda.

The initiative also aims to strengthen the country’s international competitiveness by promoting sustainable development and attracting investments in the port, airport, and river transport sectors.
For the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, “the launch of the Sustainability Policy is a milestone for Brazil’s logistics infrastructure. We are committed to building a sector that combines economic development with environmental responsibility, positioning the country as a global benchmark.”

The Chief Financial Officer of the Pecém Complex, Rebeca Oliveira, stated that “Pecém is aligned with global goals and invests in sustainable practices that drive development in Ceará and Brazil. By joining the pact, we also strengthen our ties with local communities, promoting professional training, job creation, and social inclusion while directly contributing to the region’s quality of life.”

The criteria for obtaining sustainability seals were also presented and divided into four categories: bronze, silver, gold, and diamond. These seals can be awarded to companies that adhere to the pact and recognize environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) practices.

“The idea was to set goals and parameters to achieve effective results. We created a participatory policy with a 30-day public consultation period, allowing input from society and the market. This is an instrument built collectively,” emphasized MPor’s Sustainability Director, Larissa Amorim.
