Brazil achieved a turnover of $1.11 billion in the export of natural stones in 2023, according to data from the Brazilian Center of Ornamental Stones Exporters (Centrorochas). This figure reflects the resilience of the sector, which, after meeting pent-up demand post-pandemic, continues to face long-standing issues such as logistical barriers.
Centrorochas President Tales Machado predicted a recovery in the segment due to the post-pandemic boom.
“Many economic sectors felt the immediate impacts of the pandemic. In the stone sector, I dare say it is happening now. What comforts us is that this effect came in the form of a turnover recovery to pre-Covid levels,” he explained.
Moreover, according to the leader, even with a 13.4% reduction in turnover compared to 2022, Brazil’s performance in achieving a turnover of $1.11 billion in the export of stones is seen as positive, signaling the sector’s ability to overcome adversities.
“Through It’s Natural, we have implemented various market expansion strategies and innovative approaches to international stone specifiers,” he said, referring to the sectoral project promoting Brazilian stones in the international market, executed by Centrorochas with the support of ApexBrasil.
KBIS 2024
Brazil has confirmed its participation in KBIS 2024, the premier North American kitchen and bathroom design event, which will bring together over 49,000 architects and designers from February 27 to 29 in Las Vegas.
Brazil will have a booth to promote its stones in the country that imported most of its materials in 2023. The United States was the primary destination for Brazilian natural stones, absorbing 54.7% of everything Brazil sent. Following are China (15.4%), Italy (7.16%), Mexico (5.11%), and the United Kingdom (1.8%).
Espírito Santo remained in the lead among exporting states, accounting for 82.24% of national shipments, followed by Minas Gerais (10.4%) and Ceará (3.16%).
