Information disclosed by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) reveals that exports of poultry genetic material from Brazil, a category of products that encompass 1-day-old chicks and hatching eggs, reached a total of 12,500 tonnes between January and May of this year. This figure represents a 103.4% significant increase compared to the same period in 2022, which saw exports of 6,183 thousand tonnes.
The accumulated revenue from international sales of day-old chicks and hatching eggs this year also experienced substantial growth, rising by 71.9% to US$113 million from US$65.7 million in 2022.
In May alone, Brazil exported 2,388 thousand tonnes of poultry genetic material, reflecting a remarkable volume increase of 137.6% compared to the previous year. In terms of revenue, there was a growth of 90.1%, generating US$21.184 million in May 2023, as opposed to US$11.145 million in the same period of 2022.
Notable importers of Brazilian poultry genetics include Mexico, which imported 7,998 thousand tonnes between January and May, a substantial increase of 314.2%. Other importers include Senegal with 1,392 thousand tonnes (-38.5%), Peru with 1,268 thousand tonnes (+2663%), Paraguay with 1,140 thousand tonnes (+1.8%), Venezuela with 235 tonnes (+1431%), and Saudi Arabia with 204 tonnes (+31.6%).
“The countries of Latin America have emerged as the leading importers of Brazilian poultry genetics due to strong partnerships established between local producers and genetics companies in Brazil. These partnerships have positioned the country as a reliable source of genetic inputs to the continent’s production chains. It is expected that this trend of increased shipments will continue throughout the year,” analyzes Ricardo Santin, the president of ABPA.
