Data from the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) reveals that exports of poultry genetics (including fertile eggs and genetic material) totaled 1,607 thousand metric tons in August. This volume represents a 23.6% increase compared to the shipments in the same period last year, which stood at 1,300 thousand metric tons.
In terms of revenue, there was a slight 0.1% increase in August, with $15.709 million in 2023 compared to $15.692 million in 2022.
Year-to-date (January to August), poultry genetics exports have surged by 78.3%, with 17,295 thousand metric tons shipped in the first eight months of this year, compared to 9,698 thousand metric tons exported in 2022.
In turn, the year-to-date revenue reached $162.1 million, a 47% increase compared to the total achieved between January and August 2022, which was $110.3 million.
Mexico, the primary importer of Brazilian poultry genetics, received 10,429 thousand metric tons between January and August this year, 171% higher than recorded in 2022. Other highlights include Senegal with 2,262 thousand metric tons (-20%), Paraguay with 1,789 thousand metric tons (-1%), and Peru with 1,402 thousand metric tons (+1200%).
“This year, the poultry genetics export sector has strengthened its presence in new frontiers of the Americas, especially supporting productive hubs affected by outbreaks of Avian Influenza. These are significant exports that also attest to the recognition of these importing nations regarding the sanitary status of our country, as biosecurity is a mandatory requirement for shipments in this productive segment,” highlights ABPA President Ricardo Santin.
