Brazilian exports of poultry genetics (hatching eggs and 1-day-old chicks) totaled 15,638 thousand tonnes in the twelve months of 2022, informed the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). The performance was 0.3% weaker than in 2021, with 15,691 thousand tonnes. However, the revenue increased 21% year-on-year, totaling US$ 178.8 million in 2022, against US$ 147.7 million in the previous year.
In December 2022 alone, sales of poultry genetic material grew 29.9% in volume, with 1,782 thousand tonnes in the month compared to 1,372 thousand tonnes in the twelfth month of 2021. In revenue, the increase is 67.4% to US$ 19.8 million in the last month of 2022 from US$ 11.8 million in 2021.
Mexico, the main export destination, received 7,826 thousand tonnes, a volume 91.2% greater than that registered in 2021. In the second place, Senegal imported 3,377 thousand tonnes (-40.6%). In third place, Paraguay imported 2,799 (-7.6%).
“The Brazilian sanitary standing has favored international poultry sales in several fields. This is the case for the poultry genetics sector, which has preserved and strengthened its position as a supplier of high added value inputs to various markets, supporting the growth of poultry production centers in the Americas, Africa, and Asia,” says Luis Rua, ABPA’s director of markets.
