According to the newest statistical report released every month by the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé), coffee exports from Brazil reached a total of 2.448 million 60 kg bags in May, generating US$ 544.8 million in foreign exchange earnings. However, compared to the same month last year, there were declines of 17.4% in volume and 22.6% in value.
In the 11 months of the 2022/23 crop year, Brazilian coffee shipments reached 32.977 million bags, a drop of 9.7% compared to the 36.501 million bags exported between July 2021 and May 2022.
Despite the decrease in volume, revenue increased by 2.1% due to the higher average price of the product in the current range, totaling US$ 7.546 billion.

Calendar year
From January to May 2023, Brazil exported 13.577 million coffee bags, showing a 19.3% decrease compared to the same period last year. The foreign exchange revenue during this time was US$ 2.958 billion, marking a decline of 24.4% from the previous year.
Márcio Ferreira, president of Cecafé, explains that the harvest of coffee in Brazil by the end of May was close to 20% below the forecast, with adverse weather conditions impacting the smaller crops in 2021 and 2022.
However, with the arrival of coffees produced for the 2023/24 season, an improvement in export volumes is expected to follow in the coming months.
