Brazil revenue from beef exports grow 55.9%

Brazilian beef exports recorded a growth of 55.9% in revenue in the first five months of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. The data were collected by the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex) and released by the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec).
From January to May this year, the revenue from beef exports reached US$ 5.06 billion, compared to US$ 3.24 billion in the same period of the previous year. The increase was 25% in volume, going from 710 thousand tonnes in 2021 to 887.3 thousand tonnes in 2022 (until May). The average beef price grew 24.7% in the same period, from US$ 4,500 per tonne to US$ 5,700 per tonne. “This shows that Brazilian beef is being increasingly sought after in the international market and that Brazil is consolidating itself as an important trading partner for many buying countries,” explains Antônio Jorge Camardelli, president of Abiec.
Comparing May 2022 with May 2021, one will find that revenue increased 49.5%, from US$ 725.2 million to US$ 1.08 billion. When looking at the volume, the increase was 17.5%, from 149.8 thousand tonnes to 176 thousand tonnes. As for comparing May with April, there was a deceleration of 1.7% in revenue, which was US$ 1.102 billion.

Main markets
Brazil exported beef to 130 countries in 2022 so far. The main buyer was China, with US$ 2.9 billion, up 91.3% compared to US$ 1.52 billion in 2021. The volume grew 37.9% and stood at 437.4 thousand tonnes over 317 thousand tonnes. Brazil’s second-largest beef buyer was the United States, with US$ 471 million, up 88% from US$ 251 million. Volume increased by 109.8%, with 70.9 thousand tonnes vis-a-vis 33.8 thousand tonnes.
Revenue from shipments to Egypt in the period grew 345% and stood at US$ 255.8 million against US$ 57.5 million as a result of the 286.9% growth in the volume of meat shipped, which rose from 17,100 tonnes to 66.3 thousand tonnes.
Shipments to the European Union grew 29.4% in revenue with US$ 212.8 million against US$ 164.5 million, while the volume shipped increased 14.4% and ended the period with 28.6 thousand tonnes compared to 25 thousand tonnes in 2021. Aggregate revenue from shipments to Chile grew 2.8% and stood at US$ 157 million compared to US$ 152.7 million in the previous year.
When comparing May 2021 to May 2022, China leads the way with revenue of US$ 692.2 million, a 101% gain over US$ 343.2 million in 2021. The volume increased by 42.6% during the period, remaining at 95.9 thousand tons versus 67.3 thousand tonnes. Revenue from sales to the European Union rose 56.9%, from US$ 30 million to US$ 47.2 million, with shipments up 33.9%, reaching 5.9 thousand tonnes in May compared to 4.4 thousand tonnes last year.
Revenue from sales to Egypt in the period totaled US$ 44.9 million, an increase of 356.8% compared to US$ 9.8 million. The volume shipped grew 329.6% and stood at 11,400 tonnes against 2,650 tonnes. Shipments to Saudi Arabia also raised 71.7% in revenue, which stood at 20.3 million over US$ 11.8 million, with a volume 42.9% higher, reaching 3,600 tonnes against 2.5 thousand tonnes. For the United Arab Emirates, revenue increased by 6.3%, with US$ 18.9 million compared to US$ 17.8 million and a volume 1.6% higher, from 4,020 tonnes to 4,090 tonnes.
